Containment, 2009
Containment: An Exhibition
Space: Crafthouse Gallery, Granville Island, Vancouver, BC.
Time: May 7th to June 14th, 2009.
Theme: Places to hide your secrets!
Notes:
This exhibition was a series of vessels that were special places to put your family secrets or treasures. I wanted them to be sacred vessels that one could almost see into and catch a glimpse of the treasure or secret it held. We are secretive by nature but sometimes we do like to share them with others and reveal a little bit of our 'mystique' to the chosen few.
Artist's Statement:
Human Beings by our very nature hide and reveal things, We bury our secrets and then we tell them to others so they cease to be secrets. It is as if it is necessary for us to have them and yet we give them away. Containers for your secrets: but the very container they are in - tells the viewer things about one that one might not wish to put into words. Can anything remain a total secret? It's perhaps a natural ebb and flow.
